Stencil technique on a mosque entrance ( Morocco, 2019 )
writing typefaces mosque gender women prayer
Collection : wall communications
Topic : Arabic and Islamic Typography and Calligraphy
Age/Era :
21st century

Instead of a screwed-on sign or handwritten calligraphy the entrance of  this mosque is marked with a stencil-lettering saying "mosque for women" (مَسْجِد للنساء). The stencil technique is widespread in graffiti art as well as in work-places that have the need for very exact writing. I never came across stencil-writing in a religious context.
