In the month of Ramadan 2005 this seasonal collection of drinking glasses with a stylized view of the Meccan mosque was sold in Midhat Pasha, Damascus. Ramadan is a time of extended dinners once the sun has set - and with many guests. Islamic motives and especially Koranic verses are widespread on drinking vessels, since both are believed to spread divine blessing (baraka) to the liquid. In the last one or two decades, though new fashions and techniques of print, layout and application appeared that changed the look of these vessels. See here, for a historic example of earthenware.
