Historic Koran lectern (Seljuks of Rum)
Historic Koran lectern (Seljuks of Rum) ( Turkey, 14?? )
books mushaf (Koran copy) reading wood carvings
Collection : religious duties
Topic : Islamic Motifs and Materials

A work done by Abd al-Wahid bin Sulaiman, mid 13th century. Dynasty of the Seljuks of Rum, Turkey. Height 97 cm, walnut wood.

The photographs show the lectern in a half-fold way. The basic design has not changed until today: Two boards of wood, embellished with carvings - not always in such an artistic manner, of course, as can be seen in this mass produced lectern on sale in a supermarket
